Chapter 1: Daśaratha Desires to Appoint Rāma as the Crown Prince

एषा ह्यस्य परा प्रीतिर्हृदि सम्परिवर्तते।
कदा नाम सुतं द्रक्ष्याम्यभिषिक्तमहं प्रियम्॥
eṣā hy asya parā prītir hṛdi samparivartate
kadā nāma sutaṁ drakṣyāmy abhiṣiktam ahaṁ priyam
eṣā = this thought; hi = indeed; asya = his; parā = unbounded; prītiḥ = source of happiness; hṛdi = in his heart; samparivartate = was constantly present; kadā nāma = oh, when; sutam = son; drakṣyāmi = will finally see; abhiṣiktam = coronated; aham = I; priyam = my dear.
“Oh, when will I finally see my dear son coronated?” Indeed, this thought, his unbounded source of happiness, was constantly present in his heart.
This reveals Daśaratha’s abundant love for Rāmacandra.
