Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 1: Daśaratha Desires to Appoint Rāma as the Crown Prince
Text 2.1.39

महीमिमां कृत्स्नामधितिष्ठन्तमात्मजम्।
अनेन वयसा दृष्ट्वा यथा स्वर्गमवाप्नुयाम्॥

mahīm imāṁ kṛtsnām adhitiṣṭhantam ātmajam
anena vayasā dṛṣṭvā yathā svargam avāpnuyām

mahīm = earth; imām = this; kṛtsnām = entire; adhitiṣṭhantam = ruling over; ātmajam = my son; anena = an; vayasā = old man; dṛṣṭvā = after I see; yathā-svargam = the heaven appropriate to me; avāpnuyām = I can attain.

“After I, an old man, see my son ruling over this entire earth, I can attain the heaven appropriate to me.”

The heaven appropriate to Daśaratha can refer to the heavenly direct experience of the beauty of Lord Rāma as stated [Sītā-devī]:

yas tvayā saha sa svargo nirayo yas tvayā vinā

“Being with You is heaven and being without You is hell.” (Rāmāyaṇa 2.30.18)
