Chapter 1: Daśaratha Desires to Appoint Rāma as the Crown Prince
Text 2.1.49
अथ राजवितीर्णेषु विविधेष्वासनेषु च।
राजानमेवाभिमुखा निषेदुर्नियता नृपाः॥
atha rāja-vitīrṇeṣu vividheṣv āsaneṣu ca
rājānam evābhimukhā niṣedur niyatā nṛpāḥ
atha = then; rāja-vitīrṇeṣu = offered by King Daśaratha; vividheṣu = various; āsaneṣu ca = on seats; rājānam eva = him; abhimukhāḥ = and faced; niṣeduḥ = sat; niyatāḥ = those subordinate; nṛpāḥ = kings.
Then those subordinate kings sat on various seats offered by King Daśaratha and faced him.
Niyatāḥ also indicates that these kings were intimate to Daśaratha and that they followed the regulations of reverence by not spreading their legs in his presence and so on.
