Chapter 4: Daśaratha’s Anxiety About Coronating Rāma
Text 2.4.13
जातमिष्टमपत्यं मे त्वमद्यानुपमं भुवि।
दत्तमिष्टमधीतं च मया पुरुषसत्तम॥
jātam iṣṭam apatyaṁ me tvam adyānupamaṁ bhuvi
dattam iṣṭam adhītaṁ ca mayā puruṣa-sattama
jātam = have taken birth; iṣṭam = cherished; apatyam = as son; me = my; tvam = You; adya = now; anupamam = who is unparalleled; bhuvi = on earth; dattam = have given in charity; iṣṭam = all that were dear to me; adhītam = studied [the scriptures]; ca = and; mayā = I; puruṣa-sattama = O best of men.
You have taken birth as my cherished son who is now unparalleled on earth. O best of men, I have given in charity all that were dear to me and studied [the scriptures].
