Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 8: The Conversation Between Kaikeyī and Mantharā
Text 2.8.27
ध्रुवं तु भरतं रामः प्राप्य राज्यमकण्टकम्।
देशान्तरं वा नयिता लोकान्तरमथापि वा॥
dhruvaṁ tu bharataṁ rāmaḥ prāpya rājyam akaṇṭakam
deśāntaraṁ vā nayitā lokāntaram athāpi vā
dhruvam = certainly; tu = but; bharatam = Bharata; rāmaḥ = Rāma; prāpya = having obtained; rājyam = kingdom; akaṇṭakam = a thornless; deśa-antaram vā = to another land; nayitā = will transfer; loka-antaram = world; atha api vā = or.
But having obtained a thornless kingdom, Rāma will certainly transfer Bharata to another land or world.1
1 This is one more senseless allegation from Mantharā: Rāma will either exile Bharata or kill Him. “Transfer to another land” is the same as “exile” and “transfer to another world” euphemistically means “kill.”
