Chapter 8: The Conversation Between Kaikeyī and Mantharā
Text 2.8.35
स ते सुखोचितो बालो रामस्य सहजो रिपुः।
समृद्धार्थस्य नष्टार्थो जीविष्यति कथं वशे॥
sa te sukhocito bālo rāmasya sahajo ripuḥ
samṛddhārthasya naṣṭārtho jīviṣyati kathaṁ vaśe
saḥ1 te = your; sukha-ucitaḥ = who is fit to be happy; bālaḥ = boy; rāmasya = of Rāma; sahajaḥ = and who is the natural; ripuḥ = enemy [of Rāma]; samṛddha-arthasya = who would be prosperous with wealth; naṣṭa-arthaḥ = who has lost His wealth; jīviṣyati = can live; katham = how; vaśe = under the control.
How can your boy, who is fit to be happy, who has lost His wealth and who is the natural enemy [of Rāma], live under the control of Rāma who would be prosperous with wealth?

And Mantharā now presents [her view of] the undesirable consequences of Bharata not getting a kingdom. According to her, Bharata is a natural enemy of Rāma because He is a son of Rāma’s co-wife and so she wondered how Bharata could live under the control of Rāma.
