Chapter 13: Kaikeyī Rejects Daśaratha’s Sorrowful Plea
Text 2.13.19
अथवा गम्यतां शीघ्रं नाहमिच्छामि निर्घृणाम्।
नृशंसां कैकयीं द्रष्टुं यत्कृते व्यसनं महत्॥
atha vā gamyatāṁ śīghraṁ nāham icchāmi nirghṛṇām
nṛśaṁsāṁ kaikayīṁ draṣṭuṁ yat-kṛte vyasanaṁ mahat
atha vā = or else; gamyatām = go away; śīghram = quickly; na aham icchāmi = I don’t want; nirghṛṇām = the merciless; nṛśaṁsām = and cruel; kaikayīm = Kaikeyī; draṣṭum = to see; yat-kṛte = for whose sake; vyasanam = crisis; mahat = [I have to face this] great.
“Or else, go away quickly. I don’t want to see the merciless and cruel Kaikeyī for whose sake [I have to face this] great crisis.”
