Chapter 16: Rāma Passes Through the Grand Road to Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.16.29-30

मेघनादमसम्बाधं मणिहेमविभूषितम्।
मुष्णन्तमिव चक्षुंषि प्रभया सूर्यवर्चसम्॥

करेणुशिशुकल्पैश्च युक्तं परमवाजिभिः।
हरियुक्तं सहस्राक्षो रथमिन्द्र इवाशुगम्।
प्रययौ तूर्णमास्थाय राघवो ज्वलितः श्रिया॥

megha-nādam asambādhaṁ maṇi-hema-vibhūṣitam
muṣṇantam iva cakṣūṁṣi prabhayā sūrya-varcasam

kareṇu-śiśu-kalpaiś ca yuktaṁ parama-vājibhiḥ
hari-yuktaṁ sahasrākṣo ratham indra ivāśugam
prayayau tūrṇam āsthāya rāghavo jvalitaḥ śriyā

megha-nādam = it rumbled like a cloud; asambādham = it was not narrow; maṇi-hema-vibhūṣitam = and it was ornamented with jewels in gold; muṣṇantam = captivating; iva = it appeared; cakṣūṁṣi = the eyes [of the onlookers]; prabhayā = with its illumination; sūrya-varcasam = to have the luster of the sun; kareṇu-śiśu-kalpaiḥ ca = that resembled young elephants; yuktam = it was yoked; parama-vājibhiḥ = with excellent horses; hari-yuktam = yoked with horses; sahasra-akṣaḥ = the thousand-eyed; ratham = chariot; indraḥ = Indra; iva = and resembled; āśugam = His fast; prayayau = and departed; tūrṇam = quickly; āsthāya = He got on; rāghavaḥ = Rāghava; jvalitaḥ = was radiant; śriyā = with beauty.

Rāghava was radiant with beauty and resembled the thousand-eyed Indra. He quickly got on His fast chariot yoked with horses and departed. It rumbled like a cloud. It was not narrow and it was ornamented with jewels in gold. It appeared to have the luster of the sun, captivating the eyes [of the onlookers] with its illumination. It was yoked with excellent horses that resembled young elephants.
