Chapter 18: Kaikeyī Informs Rāma About the two Boons
Text 2.18.3
रामेत्युक्त्वा च वचनं बाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणः।
शशाक नृपतिर्दीनो नेक्षितुं नाभिभाषितुम्॥
rāmety uktvā ca vacanaṁ bāṣpa-paryākulekṣaṇaḥ
śaśāka nṛ-patir dīno nekṣituṁ nābhibhāṣitum
rāma iti = “Rāma”; uktvā ca vacanam = after uttering; bāṣpa-paryākula-īkṣaṇaḥ = his eyes brimming with tears; śaśāka = could; nṛ-patiḥ = king; dīnaḥ = the sorrowful; na = neither; īkṣitum = see Him; na = nor; abhibhāṣitum = speak to Him.
After uttering “Rāma!” the sorrowful king, his eyes brimming with tears, could neither see Him nor speak to Him.
