Chapter 20: Kausalyā’s Lamentation
Text 2.20.27
देवि नूनं न जानीषे महद्भयमुपस्थितम्।
इदं तव च दुःखाय वैदेह्या लक्ष्मणस्य च॥
devi nūnaṁ na jānīṣe mahad bhayam upasthitam
idaṁ tava ca duḥkhāya vaidehyā lakṣmaṇasya ca
devi = O queen; nūnam = certainly; na jānīṣe = you don’t know; mahat = great; bhayam = cause of fear for you; upasthitam = has come about; idam = that a; tava ca = you; duḥkhāya = it will distress; vaidehyāḥ = Vaidehī; lakṣmaṇasya = Lakṣmaṇa; ca = and.
O queen, you certainly don’t know that a great cause of fear for you has come about. It will distress you, Vaidehī and Lakṣmaṇa.
Nevertheless, Śrī Rāma would disclose it to her in the next verse.
