Chapter 20: Kausalyā’s Lamentation
Text 2.20.46
तदक्षयं महद्दुखं नोत्सहे सहितुं चिरम्।
विप्रकारं सपत्नीनामेवं जीर्णापि राघव॥
tad akṣayaṁ mahad dukhaṁ notsahe sahituṁ ciram
viprakāraṁ sapatnīnām evaṁ jīrṇāpi rāghava
tat = such; akṣayam = and unending; mahat = a great; dukham = distress; na utsahe sahitum = I cannot tolerate; ciram = for long; viprakāram = by the criticism; sapatnīnām = of my co-wives; evam = thus; jīrṇā = I am worn out; api = though; rāghava = O Rāghava.
O Rāghava, though I am thus worn out by the criticism of my co-wives, I cannot tolerate for long such a great and unending distress.
