तथा हि रामं वनवासनिश्चितं समीक्ष्य देवी परमेण चेतसा।
उवाच रामं शुभलक्षणं वचो बभूव च स्वस्त्ययनाभिकाङ्क्षिणी॥
tathā hi rāmaṁ vana-vāsa-niścitaṁ
samīkṣya devī parameṇa cetasā
uvāca rāmaṁ śubha-lakṣaṇaṁ vaco
babhūva ca svasty-ayanābhikāṅkṣiṇī
tathā hi = thus; rāmam = Rāma; vana-vāsa-niścitam = was determined to go and live in the forest; samīkṣya = noticing that; devī = Queen Kausalyā; parameṇa cetasā = in full presence of mind; uvāca = spoke; rāmam = to Rāma; śubha-lakṣaṇam = of auspicious characteristics; vacaḥ = the following words; babhūva = became; ca = and; svasti-ayana-abhikāṅkṣiṇī = anxious for [His] welfare.
Noticing that Rāma was thus determined to go and live in the forest, Queen Kausalyā became anxious for [His] welfare and spoke the following words in full presence of mind to Rāma of auspicious characteristics.

Kausalyā spoke the following words in full presence of mind, that is, with full care and respect.
