Chapter 30: Rāma Allows Sītā to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.30.31
न खल्वहं न गच्छेयं वनं जनकनन्दिनि।
वचनं तन्नयति मां पितुः सत्योपबृंहितम्॥
na khalv ahaṁ na gaccheyaṁ vanaṁ janaka-nandini
vacanaṁ tan nayati māṁ pituḥ satyopabṛṁhitam
na khalu = it is not that; aham = I; na = not; gaccheyam = will go [to the forest]; vanam = to the forest; janaka-nandini = dear daughter of Janaka Mahārāja; vacanam = the words; tat = [and] so; nayati = takes; mām = Me; pituḥ = of My father; satya-upabṛṁhitam = enhanced by [his] truthfulness.
Dear daughter of Janaka Mahārāja, the words of My father, enhanced by [his] truthfulness, takes Me to the forest [and]
He means to say, “I will go to the forest today itself.”
