Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 31: Rāma Allows Lakṣmaṇa to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.31.9

ततोऽब्रवीन्महातेजा रामो लक्ष्मणमग्रतः।
स्थितं प्राग्गामिनं वीरं याचमानं कृताञ्जलिम्॥

tato ’bravīn mahā-tejā rāmo lakṣmaṇam agrataḥ
sthitaṁ prāggāminaṁ vīraṁ yācamānaṁ kṛtāñjalim

tataḥ = then; abravīt = spoke; mahā-tejā = of great prowess; rāmaḥ = Rāma; lakṣmaṇam = Lakṣmaṇa; agrataḥ = in front of Him; sthitam = who stood; prāggāminam = who had already prepared Himself to depart [with Rāma]; vīram = to the heroic; yācamānam = and who was begging Him to allow Him to accompany [Him to the forest]; kṛta-añjalim = with His palms joined in supplication.

Then Rāma of great prowess spoke to the heroic Lakṣmaṇa who stood in front of Him, who had already prepared Himself to depart [with Rāma] and who was begging Him with His palms joined in supplication to allow Him to accompany [Him to the forest].

Lakṣmaṇa was heroic, that is, filled with heroic prowess as needed to depart [to the forest] even before [Rāma]. He had joined His palms in supplications to beg Rāma [to fulfill His prayer, and not merely out of respect].
