Chapter 31: Rāma Allows Lakṣmaṇa to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.31.17

एवं कुरुष्व सौमित्रे मत्कृते रघुनन्दन।
अस्माभिर्विप्रहीणाया मातुर्नो न भवेत्सुखम्॥

evaṁ kuruṣva saumitre mat-kṛte raghu-nandana
asmābhir viprahīṇāyā mātur no na bhavet sukham

evam = this; kuruṣva = do; saumitre = O son of Sumitrā-devī; mat-kṛte = for My sake; raghu-nandana = O beloved of the Raghus; asmābhiḥ = Me and Sītā; viprahīṇāyāḥ = without; mātuḥ = mother; naḥ = Our; na = no; bhavet sukham = will have happiness.

O son of Sumitrā-devī, O beloved of the Raghus, do this for My sake. Our mother will have no happiness without Me and Sītā.
