Chapter 42: Daśaratha Goes to Kausalyā’s Residence in Distress
Text 2.42.35

तं राममेवानुविचिन्तयन्तं समीक्ष्य देवी शयने नरेन्द्रम्।
उपोपविश्याधिकमार्तरूपा विनिश्वसन्ती विललाप कृच्छ्रम्॥

taṁ rāmam evānucintayantaṁ
samīkṣya devī śayane narendram

upopaviśyādhikam ārta-rūpā
viniśvasantī vilalāpa kṛcchram

tam = the; rāmam = Rāma; eva = simply; anucintayantam = was absorbed in the thought of; samīkṣya = noticing that; devī = the queen; śayane = to the bed; nara-indram = king; upa = next; upaviśya = sat; adhikam = even more; ārta-rūpā = she was visibly distressed; viniśvasantī = sighing; vilalāpa = and lamented; kṛcchram = sorrowfully.

Noticing that the king on the bed was simply absorbed in the thought of Rāma, the queen sat next to him on the bed and lamented even more. She was visibly distressed, sighing sorrowfully.
