सूर्यस्यापि भवेत्सूर्यो ह्यग्नेरग्निः प्रभोः प्रभुः।
श्रियः श्रीश्च भवेदग्र्या कीर्तिः कीर्त्याः क्षमाक्षमा॥
sūryasyāpi bhavet sūryo hy agner agniḥ prabhoḥ prabhuḥ
śriyaḥ śrīś ca bhaved agryā kīrtiḥ kīrtyāḥ kṣamā-kṣamā
sūryasya = of sun; api = and; bhavet = He can become; sūryaḥ hi = the sun; agneḥ = of fire; agniḥ = the fire; prabhoḥ = of the controller of all; prabhuḥ = the controller; śriyaḥ = of prosperity; śrīḥ = prosperity; ca = and; bhavet = He can become; agryā = the utmost; kīrtiḥ = the fame; kīrtyāḥ = of fame; kṣamā-kṣamā = the tolerance of tolerance.
He can become the sun of sun, the fire of fire and the controller of the controller of all. He can become the utmost prosperity of prosperity, the fame of fame and the tolerance of tolerance.1

He can become the sun of sun, that is, He can illuminate the illuminator of the entire universe. He can become the fire of fire, that is, He can burn up even that which burns [others]. Śriyaḥ śrīś ca bhaved agryā can also mean “He can become the utmost beauty of beauty.”1
GLOSS. Sūryasya sūryaḥ indicates that Rāma gives the potency to Sūrya to illuminate. Agneḥ agniḥ indicates that Rāma is the leader of Agni. Śriyaḥ śrīḥ indicates that Rāma gives prosperity to the goddess of fortune. Kīrtiḥ kīrtyāḥ indicates that Rāma grants fame to [the goddess of] fame. Kṣamā-kṣamā indicates that Rāma grants tolerance to [the goddess of] tolerance.
NOTE. In Bhagavad-gītā 10.34, Lord Kṛṣṇa refers to Kīrti, Śrī, Vāk, Smṛti, Medhā, Dhṛti and Kṣamā thus:
kīrtiḥ śrīr vāk ca nārīṇāṁ smṛtir medhā dhṛtiḥ kṣamā
“Among women I am fame, fortune, fine speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and patience.”
Śrīla Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa has remarked:
daivatā hy etāḥ yāsām ābhāsenāpi narāḥ ślāghyāḥ bhavanti.
“These ladies are actually demigoddesses. Even by a reflection of their [influence], men become praiseworthy.”
