Chapter 48: The Ladies in Ayodhyā Lament
Text 2.48.19
युष्माकं राघवोऽरण्ये योगक्षेमं विधास्यति।
सीता नारीजनस्यास्य योगक्षेमं करिष्यति॥
yuṣmākaṁ rāghavo ’raṇye yoga-kṣemaṁ vidhāsyati
sītā nārī-janasyāsya yoga-kṣemaṁ kariṣyati
yuṣmākam = for all of you; rāghavaḥ = Rāghava; araṇye = in the forest; yoga-kṣemam = yoga-kṣema; vidhāsyati = will provide; sītā = Sītā; nārī-janasya = women; asya = for us; yoga-kṣemam = yoga-kṣema; kariṣyati = will provide.
Rāghava will provide yoga-kṣema for all of you in the forest. Sītā will provide yoga-kṣema for us women.1
1 This and the previous text reveal the unbreakable confidence (śraddhā) they had in Sītā-Rāma. Such unbreakable confidence is the beginning of pure devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
NOTE. Śrīla Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa has remarked in his commentary on Bhagavad-gītā (2.45):
alabdha-lābho yogaḥ, labdhasya parirakṣaṇaṁ kṣemam.
Yoga [in the expression yoga-kṣema] refers to gaining that which has not been gained and kṣema [in the same expression] refers to preserving that which has been gained.
The ladies in Ayodhyā told their husbands, “Rāghava will provide what you lack and preserve what He has provided you. Sītā will provide us what we lack and preserve what she has provided us.”
