Chapter 57: Sumantra Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.57.14
किं समर्थं जनस्यास्य किं प्रियं किं सुखावहम्।
इति रामेण नगरं पितृवत्परिपालितम्॥
kiṁ samarthaṁ janasyāsya kiṁ priyaṁ kiṁ sukhāvaham
iti rāmeṇa nagaraṁ pitṛvat paripālitam
kim = what is; samartham = good; janasya = person; asya = for this; kim = what does; priyam = he like; kim = what will; sukha-āvaham = make him happy; iti rāmeṇa = Rāma considered thus; nagaram = of the people in the city; pitṛvat = like their father; paripālitam = and took care.
“‘What is good for this person? What does he like? What will make him happy?’ Rāma considered thus and took care of the people in the city like their father!”
