Chapter 57: Sumantra Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.57.20
ततो दशरथस्त्रीणां प्रासादेभ्यस्ततस्ततः।
रामशोकाभितप्तानां मन्दं शुश्राव जल्पितम्॥
tato daśaratha-strīṇāṁ prāsādebhyas tatas tataḥ
rāma-śokābhitaptānāṁ mandaṁ śuśrāva jalpitam
tataḥ = then; daśaratha-strīṇām = of Daśaratha’s wives; prāsādebhyaḥ tataḥ tataḥ = from their palaces; rāma-śoka-abhitaptānām = who were extremely distressed in sorrow about Rāma; mandam = the faint; śuśrāva = Sumantra heard; jalpitam = talks.
Then Sumantra heard the faint talks of Daśaratha’s wives who were extremely distressed in sorrow about Rāma from their palaces.
