Chapter 59: Sumantra Describes the Agony of all Creatures in the Country

लीनपुष्करपत्राश्च नरेन्द्र कलुषोदकाः।
संतप्तपद्माः पद्मिन्यो लीनमीनविहंगमाः॥
līna-puṣkara-patrāś ca narendra kaluṣodakāḥ
santapta-padmāḥ padminyo līna-mīna-vihaṅgamāḥ
līna-puṣkara-patrāḥ ca = with the leaves of the lotuses entirely deteriorated; nara-indra = O king; kaluṣa-udakāḥ = the water bodies have become contaminated; santapta-padmāḥ = the lotuses have become dried up; padminyaḥ = the lotus ponds; līna-mīna-vihaṅgamāḥ = are filled with motionless fish and water birds.
O king, with the leaves of the lotuses entirely deteriorated, the water bodies have become contaminated. The lotuses have become dried up. The lotus ponds are filled with motionless fish and water birds.
The deteriorated leaves of the lotuses sunk into the water bodies. “Water birds” refer to the diver bird and so on.
