Chapter 67: The Sages Request Vasiṣṭha to Coronate a son of Daśaratha

नाराजके जनपदे धनवन्तः सुरक्षिताः।
शेरते विवृतद्वाराः कृषिगोरक्षजीविनः॥
nārājake janapade dhanavantaḥ surakṣitāḥ
śerate vivṛta-dvārāḥ kṛṣi-go-rakṣa-jīvinaḥ
na = cannot; arājake = devoid of a bona fide king; janapade = in a place; dhanavantaḥ = wealthy people; surakṣitāḥ = very secure; śerate = sleep; vivṛta-dvārāḥ = with their doors open; kṛṣi-go-rakṣa-jīvinaḥ = living on agriculture and cow protection.
In a place devoid of a bona fide king, very secure wealthy people living on agriculture and cow protection cannot sleep with their doors open.
They cannot sleep with their doors open, that is, they can only [sleep] with their doors locked.
