Chapter 69: Bharata’s Distressing Dreams
Text 2.69.19
एतन्निमित्तं दीनोऽहं तन्न वः प्रतिपूजये।
शुष्यतीव च मे कण्ठो न स्वस्थमिव मे मनः॥
etan-nimittaṁ dīno ’haṁ tan na vaḥ pratipūjaye
śuṣyatīva ca me kaṇṭho na svastham iva me manaḥ
etat-nimittam = this is why; dīnaḥ = desolate; aham = I am; tat = therefore; na = did not; vaḥ = with all of you; pratipūjaye = and I favorably reciprocate; śuṣyati iva = appears to dry up; ca = and; me = My; kaṇṭhaḥ = throat; na = does not; svastham iva = appear to be well-off; me = My; manaḥ = mind.
“This is why I am desolate. Therefore I did not favorably reciprocate with all of you. My throat appears to dry up and My mind does not appear to be well-off.
