Text 2.72.44
कच्चिन्न ब्राह्मणधनं हृतं रामेण कस्यचित्।
कच्चिन्नाढ्यो दरिद्रो वा तेनापापो विहिंसितः॥
kaccin na brāhmaṇa-dhanaṁ hṛtaṁ rāmeṇa kasyacit
kaccin nāḍhyo daridro vā tenāpāpo vihiṁsitaḥ
kaccit na = has; brāhmaṇa-dhanam = the wealth of the brāhmaṇas; hṛtam = stolen; rāmeṇa = Rāma; kasyacit = for any purpose; kaccit na = has; āḍhyaḥ = wealthy; daridraḥ = poor; vā = or; tena = He; apāpaḥ = a sinless person; vihiṁsitaḥ = tortured.
Has Rāma stolen the wealth of the brāhmaṇas for any purpose? Has He tortured a sinless person, wealthy or poor?1
1 These are dhārmika reasons to exile a person.
GLOSS. Bharata intended to ask, “Has it come to anyone’s knowledge that Rāma has stolen the wealth of a brāhmaṇa?”
