Chapter 78: Śatrughna Punishes Mantharā
Text 2.78.1
अथ यात्रां समीहन्तं शत्रुघ्नो लक्ष्मणानुजः।
भरतं शोकसंतप्तमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्॥
atha yātrāṁ samīhantaṁ śatrughno lakṣmaṇānujaḥ
bharataṁ śoka-santaptam idaṁ vacanam abravīt
atha = then; yātrām samīhantam = and desirous of going [to the forest] to meet Rāma; śatrughnaḥ = Śatrughna; lakṣmaṇa-anujaḥ = Lakṣmaṇa’s younger brother; bharatam = to Bharata; śoka-santaptam = who was burning in distress; idam = the following; vacanam = words; abravīt = spoke.
Then Lakṣmaṇa’s younger brother Śatrughna spoke the following words to Bharata who was burning in distress and desirous of going [to the forest] to meet Rāma.
“Then” means “After completing the remaining rituals and returning home.”
