Chapter 84: Guha Meets Bharata
Text 2.84.7
तिष्ठन्तु सर्वे दाशाश्च गङ्गामन्वाश्रिता नदीम्।
बलयुक्ता नदीरक्षा मांसमूलफलाशनाः॥
tiṣṭhantu sarve dāśāś ca gaṅgām anvāśritā nadīm
bala-yuktā nadī-rakṣā māṁsa-mūla-phalāśanāḥ
tiṣṭhantu = should stand; sarve = all; dāśāḥ ca = the fishermen; gaṅgām anvāśritāḥ = by Gaṅgā; nadīm = the river; bala-yuktāḥ = along with my army; nadī-rakṣāḥ = as river guards; māṁsa-mūla-phala-aśanāḥ = subsisting on meat, roots and fruits on board.
“Along with my army, all the fishermen subsisting on meat, roots and fruits on board should stand by the river Gaṅgā as river guards. ”1
1 Guha wanted these fishermen to have their food stored in the boats and be prepared in case a war breaks out between them and Bharata’s army.
The fishermen should guard the routes to the river.
