सुवर्णमणिमुक्तेन प्रवालेन च शोभिताः।
आगुर्विंशतिसाहस्राः कुवेरप्रहिताः स्त्रियः॥
याभिर्गृहीतः पुरुषः सोन्माद इव लक्ष्यते।
आगुर्विंशतिसाहस्रा नन्दनादप्सरोगणाः॥
suvarṇa-maṇi-muktena pravālena ca śobhitāḥ
āgur viṁśati-sāhasrāḥ kuvera-prahitāḥ striyaḥ
yābhir gṛhītaḥ puruṣaḥ sonmāda iva lakṣyate
āgur viṁśati-sāhasrā nandanād apsaro-gaṇāḥ
suvarṇa-maṇi-muktena = with golden ornaments, jewels, pearls; pravālena ca = and coral; śobhitāḥ = beautiful; āguḥ = appeared; viṁśati-sāhasrāḥ = twenty thousand; kuvera-prahitāḥ = sent by Kuvera; striyaḥ = [celestial] women; yābhiḥ gṛhītaḥ = when they embrace him; puruṣaḥ = any male; sa-unmādaḥ iva = mad with passion; lakṣyate = would become; āguḥ = [then] appeared; viṁśati-sāhasrāḥ = twenty thousand; nandanāt = from Nandana-kānana; apsaraḥ-gaṇāḥ = apsarās.
Twenty thousand [celestial] women beautiful with golden ornaments, jewels, pearls and coral sent by Kuvera appeared. Any male would become mad with passion when they embrace him. Twenty thousand apsarās from Nandana-kānana [then] appeared.
The ladies sent by Kuvera were gandharva-apsarās for there is a statement in the Śruti [that they make a man mad in passion]: gandhavāpsaraso vā etam unmādayanti; ya unmādyati.
[The first line of text 44] appears in some manuscripts as yābhir gṛhītāḥ puruṣāḥ sonmādā iti hocyate which mean, “It is well known that the Śruti states that a male would become mad with passion when they embrace him.”
