Chapter 105: Rāma Consoles Bharata With Spiritual Instructions
Text 2.105.7
सुजीवं नित्यशस्तस्य यः परैरुपजीव्यते।
राम तेन तु दुर्जीवं यः परानुपजीवति॥
sujīvaṁ nityaśas tasya yaḥ parair upajīvyate
rāma tena tu durjīvaṁ yaḥ parān upajīvati
sujīvam = lives well; nityaśaḥ = always; tasya yaḥ = He whom; paraiḥ = others; upajīvyate = depend on; rāma = Rāma; tena tu = only he; durjīvam = lives badly; yaḥ = who; parān = on others; upajīvati = depends.
He whom others depend on always lives well. Rāma, only he who depends on others lives badly.1
1 Therefore the independent Supreme Personality of Godhead Rāma should rule the kingdom comprised of His eternal dependants. This was Bharata’s point and it has been His point all along.
He then pointed out in the next verse that it was appropriate that Rāma alone should protect the kingdom.
