Chapter 105: Rāma Consoles Bharata With Spiritual Instructions

नात्र कश्चिद्यथाभावं प्राणी समभिवर्तते।
तेन तस्मिन्न सामर्थ्यं प्रेतस्यास्त्यनुशोचतः॥
nātra kaścid yathā-bhāvaṁ prāṇī samabhivartate
tena tasmin na sāmarthyaṁ pretasyāsty anuśocataḥ
na = no; atra = in this world; kaścit1 yathā-bhāvam = to the extent he wants; prāṇī = creature; samabhivartate = can be with his friends; tena = therefore; tasmin = to prevent it; na = no; sāmarthyam = capacity; pretasya = about death; asti = has; anuśocataḥ = a man who laments.
No creature in this world can be with his friends to the extent he wants. Therefore a man who laments about death has no capacity to prevent it.
1 Technical note: kaścit prāṇī.
No creature in this world of conditioned souls from Brahmā to a pillar can associate with others to the extent he wants. “No creature in this world” indicates that inevitable death takes place even for Brahmā and others who live longer than humans and who are endowed with greater powers at the end of their terms of office. Therefore one should give up lamenting about that which cannot be avoided even by Brahmā and others, and endeavor to get rid of all problems [in material existence].
