Chapter 108: Jābāli Speaks the Philosophy of Materialism
Text 2.108.13
अर्थधर्मपरा ये ये तांस्ताञ्शोचामि नेतरान्।
ते हि दुःखमिह प्राप्य विनाशं प्रेत्य भेजिरे॥
artha-dharma-parā ye ye tāṁs tāñ śocāmi netarān
te hi duḥkham iha prāpya vināśaṁ pretya bhejire
artha-dharma-parāḥ = intent on renunciation and piety; ye ye = who are; tān tān = for those; śocāmi = I lament; na itarān = not for others; te hi = the former; duḥkham = distress; iha = while living; prāpya = simply attain; vināśam pretya bhejire = and disappear after death.
I lament for those who are intent on renunciation and piety, not for others. The former simply attain distress while living and disappear after death.1
