Chapter 119: Rāma Departs to Daṇḍakāraṇya
Text 2.119.19
उच्छिष्टं वा प्रमत्तं वा तापसं धर्मचारिणम्॥
अदन्त्यस्मिन्महारण्ये तान्निवारय राघव॥१९॥
ucchiṣṭaṁ vā pramattaṁ vā tāpasaṁ dharmacāriṇam
adanty asmin mahāraṇye tān nivāraya rāghava
ucchiṣṭam = who is impure; vā = or; pramattam = who is inattentive; vā = or; tāpasam = any ascetic; dharmacāriṇam = dhārmika; adanti = devour; asmin = in this; mahāraṇye = great forest; tān = these; nivāraya = restrain; rāghava = O Rāghava.
Rāghava, they devour any dhārmika ascetic who is impure or inattentive in this great forest. Restrain these rākṣasas!
NOTE. Therefore those engaged in bhakti-yoga are required to be fully attentive and inoffensive in their spiritual practices. This is pointed out the Supreme Personality of Godhead in this manner:
abhyāsa-yoga-yuktena cetasā nānya-gāminā
paramaṁ puruṣaṁ divyaṁ yāti pārthānucintayan
“He who meditates on Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his mind constantly engaged in remembering Me, undeviated from the path, he, O Pārtha, is sure to reach Me.” (Bhagavad-gītā 8.8)
