Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 2: Rāma Encounters the Rākṣasa Virādha
Text 3.2.22
शरेण निहतस्याद्य मया क्रुद्धेन रक्षसः।
विराधस्य गतासोर्हि मही पास्यति शोणितम्॥
śareṇa nihatasyādya mayā kruddhena rakṣasaḥ
virādhasya gatāsor hi mahī pāsyati śoṇitam
śareṇa = with an arrow; nihatasya = upon being destroyed; adya = now; mayā = by Me; kruddhena = in anger; rakṣasaḥ = of the rākṣasa; virādhasya = Virādha; gata-asoḥ hi = when his life-airs leave him; mahī = the earth; pāsyati = will drink; śoṇitam = the blood.
The earth will now drink the blood of the rākṣasa Virādha when his life-airs leave him upon being destroyed by Me in anger with an arrow.
Lakṣmaṇa anticipated that Rāma might ask Him, “What can You, [My] servant, do [in this regard]?” With this in mind, He spoke this verse.
