Chapter 12: Agastya Requests Rāma to Protect the Sages
Text 3.12.58
नानुवर्षति पर्जन्यो नानुवाति सुखोऽनिलः।
रक्षःप्रतिभयं घोरमासीत्परमदारुणम्॥
nānuvarṣati parjanyo nānuvāti sukho ’nilaḥ
rakṣaḥ-prati-bhayaṁ ghoram āsīt parama-dāruṇam
na anuvarṣati parjanyaḥ = it didn’t rain [there]; na = not; anuvāti = did blow; sukhaḥ = happily; anilaḥ = the wind; rakṣaḥ-prati-bhayam = there was fear of rākṣasas; ghoram = terrible; āsīt = it was; parama-dāruṇam = and extremely fierce.
It didn’t rain [there]. The wind did not blow happily. There was fear of rākṣasas. It was terrible and extremely fierce.1
