Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 14: Śrī Rāma Meets Jaṭāyu
Text 3.14.31

सर्वान्पुण्यफलान्वृक्षाननलाऽपि व्यजायत।
जज्ञे राम महाबाहो तांश्च सर्वान्महीरुहान् ॥

sarvān puṇya-phalān vṛkṣān analāpi vyajāyata
jajñe rāma mahā-bāho tāṁś ca sarvān mahīruhān

sarvān = to almost all; puṇya-phalān = with lovely fruits 1; vṛkṣān = trees; analā api = Analā; vyajāyata = gave birth; jajñe = she gave birth; rāma = Rāma; mahā-bāho = O mighty-armed; tān = to; ca = also; sarvān = almost all; mahīruhān = plants.

O mighty-armed Rāma, Analā gave birth to almost all trees with lovely fruits. She gave also birth to almost all plants.1

Neem and similar trees produce fruits that are lovely since they have great medicinal value.

In some manuscripts, piṇḍa-phalān appears instead of puṇya-phalān indicating that the fruits were round.

Having concluded this incidental discussion, the vulture introduces his own lineage from the following verse.

1 Sarvān in this verse means “almost all” because Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa states prāyikaṁ caitad iti bodhyam.
