Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 18: Śūrpaṇakhā Disfigured
Text 3.18.20

इमां विरूपामसतीमतिमत्तां महोदरीम्।
राक्षसीं पुरुषव्याघ्र विरूपयितुमर्हसि॥

imāṁ virūpām asatīm atimattāṁ mahodarīm
rākṣasīṁ puruṣa-vyāghra virūpayitum arhasi

imām = this; virūpām = and already deformed; asatīm = she is unchaste; atimattām = excessively proud; mahā-udarīm = fat; rākṣasīm = rākṣasī; puruṣa-vyāghra = O Prince; virūpayitum = deform; arhasi = You should.

O Prince, You should deform this fat rākṣasī! She is unchaste, excessively proud, and already deformed.

Rāma had been quiet so far since Śūrpaṇakhā didn’t commit any [physical] offense. Now He wanted Lakṣmaṇa to deform her on the pretext of her attacking Sītā-devī.1

1 It is indicated that by deforming her, she would become distressed and her passion and pride would be destroyed. Technical note: etena virūpa-karaṇa-hetuka-śoka-prāptyā kāma-mada-dhvaṁso bhaviṣyatīti sūcitam
