Chapter 31: Rāvaṇa’s Conversation with Akampana and Mārīca
Text 3.31.20
येन येन च गच्छन्ति राक्षसा भयकर्शिताः।
तेन तेन स्म पश्यन्ति राममेवाग्रतः स्थितम्।
इत्थं विनाशितं तेन जनस्थानं तवानघ॥
yena yena ca gacchanti rākṣasā bhaya-karśitāḥ
tena tena sma paśyanti rāmam evāgrataḥ sthitam
itthaṁ vināśitaṁ tena janasthānaṁ tavānagha
yena yena ca = in whichever pathway; gacchanti = they went; rākṣasāḥ = the rākṣasas; bhaya-karśitāḥ = emaciated by fear; tena tena1 sma paśyanti = saw; rāmam eva = Rāma; agrataḥ = before them; sthitam = standing; ittham = thus; vināśitam = destroyed; tena = He; janasthānam = Janasthāna; tava = your; anagha = O sinless one.
Emaciated by fear, the rākṣasas saw Rāma standing before them in whichever pathway they went.1 O sinless one, thus He destroyed your Janasthāna.
