Chapter 41: Mārīca Again Criticizes Rāvaṇa
Text 3.41.3
कस्त्वया सुखिना राजन्नाभिनन्दति पापकृत्।
केनेदमुपदिष्टं ते मृत्युद्वारमुपायतः॥
kas tvayā sukhinā rājan nābhinandati pāpakṛt
kenedam upadiṣṭaṁ te mṛtyu-dvāram upāyataḥ
kaḥ = who; tvayā = to be with you; sukhinā = a happy [rākṣasa]; rājan = O king; na abhinandati = that is unhappy; pāpakṛt = is that performer of sinful deeds; kena = Who; idam = thus; upadiṣṭam = has instructed; te = you; mṛtyu-dvāram = [to send you] to the gateway of death; upāyataḥ = [which is] a pretext.
O king, who is that performer of sinful deeds that is unhappy to be with you, a happy [rākṣasa]?1 Who has instructed you in this manner [which is] a pretext [to send you] to the gateway of death?
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: sukhinā tvayā avasthānam iti śeṣaḥ.
