Chapter 53: Sītā Chastises Rāvaṇa
Text 3.53.7
ईदृशं गर्हितं कर्म कथं कृत्वा न लज्जसे।
स्त्रियाश्च हरणं नीच रहिते तु परस्य च॥
īdṛśaṁ garhitaṁ karma kathaṁ kṛtvā na lajjase
striyāś ca haraṇaṁ nīca rahite tu parasya ca
īdṛśam = such; garhitam = a condemned; karma = act; katham = how is it that; kṛtvā = after performing; na lajjase = you don’t feel ashamed; striyāḥ = woman; ca = and; haraṇam = carrying away; nīca = O uncivilized one; rahite tu = [that too] from a place where He was not present; parasya ca = someone else’s.
O uncivilized one, how is it that you don’t feel ashamed after performing such a condemned act—carrying away someone else’s woman and [that too] from a place where He was not present?
