Chapter 56: Sītā is Taken to Aśoka-vana
Text 3.57.17
मां प्रधृष्य स ते कालः प्राप्तोऽयं राक्षसाधम।
आत्मनो राक्षसानां च वधायान्तःपुरस्य च॥
māṁ pradhṛṣya sa te kālaḥ prāpto ’yaṁ rākṣasādhama
ātmano rākṣasānāṁ ca vadhāyāntaḥ-purasya ca
mām = me; pradhṛṣya = because of abducting; saḥ = the; te = for you; kālaḥ = time; prāptaḥ = has come; ayam = now; rākṣasa-adhama = O lowest of the rākṣasas; ātmanaḥ = your; rākṣasānām ca = rākṣasas; vadhāya = to be destroyed; antaḥ-purasya = inner quarters; ca = and.
O lowest of the rākṣasas, because of abducting me, the time has now come for you, your rākṣasas and inner quarters to be destroyed.
Sītā-devī now applies the [previously] stated [principle of] common sense in the current situation.
[Rāvaṇa, his rākṣasas and inner quarters] will be destroyed now, not later in the future.
