Chapter 56: Sītā is Taken to Aśoka-vana
Text 3.57.19
तथाहं धर्मनित्यस्य धर्मपत्नी पतिव्रता।
त्वया स्प्रष्टुं न शक्यास्मि राक्षसाधम पापिना॥
tathāhaṁ dharma-nityasya dharma-patnī pati-vratā
tvayā spraṣṭuṁ na śakyāsmi rākṣasādhama pāpinā
tathā = similarly; aham = I; dharma-nityasya = of one who is eternally fixed in dharma; dharma-patnī = a dhārmika wife; pati-vratā = and who is sworn to her husband; tvayā = by you; spraṣṭum = to be touched; na = not; śakyā = meant; asmi = am; rākṣasa-adhama = O lowest of the rākṣasas; pāpinā = a sinner.
O lowest of the rākṣasas, similarly I, a dhārmika wife of one who is eternally fixed in dharma and who is sworn to her husband, am not meant to be touched by you, a sinner.
