Chapter 56: Sītā is Taken to Aśoka-vana
Text 3.57.29
स ताः प्रोवाच राजा तु रावणो घोरदर्शनः।
प्रचाल्य चरणोत्कर्षैर्दारयन्निव मेदिनीम्॥
sa tāḥ provāca rājā tu rāvaṇo ghora-darśanaḥ
pracālya caraṇotkarṣair dārayann iva medinīm
saḥ1 tāḥ = them; provāca = and then told [the following]; rājā tu = King; rāvaṇaḥ = Rāvaṇa; ghora-darśanaḥ = of terrible appearance; pracālya caraṇa-utkarṣaiḥ = stamped his feet; dārayan = he were shattering; iva = as if; medinīm = the earth;
King Rāvaṇa of terrible appearance stamped his feet as if he were shattering the earth and then told them [the following].
