दनोः सकाशात्तत्त्वेन प्रभावं ते महात्मनाम्।
श्रुतं प्रत्यक्षमिच्छामि सन्द्रष्टुं यदि मन्यसे॥
danoḥ sakāśāt tattvena prabhāvaṁ te mahātmanām
śrutaṁ pratyakṣam icchāmi sandraṣṭuṁ yadi manyase
danoḥ = the dānava [Kabandha]; sakāśāt = from; tattvena = the facts; prabhāvam = concerning the prowess; te = of your ācāryas; mahā-ātmanām = who were great souls; śrutam = I have heard; pratyakṣam = directly; icchāmi = I wish; sandraṣṭum = to see [that]; yadi = if; manyase = you wish to show [it to Me].
I have heard the facts concerning the prowess of your ācāryas, who were great souls, from the dānava [Kabandha]. I wish to directly see [that], if you wish to show [it to Me].
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: te mahātmanaḥ tvat-sambandhino mahātmanaḥ mataṅgasyety arthaḥ. mahātmanām iti pāṭhe tvad-ācāryāṇām ity arthaḥ.
There is a variant reading of mahātmanaḥ instead of mahātmanām which indicates that Kabandha had spoken about the prowess of the great soul Mataṅga who belonged to Śrī Rāma.1
