वार्यमाणः सुबहुशो मारीचेन स रावणः।
न विरोधो बलवता क्षमो रावण तेन ते॥
vāryamāṇaḥ subahuśo mārīcena sa rāvaṇaḥ
na virodho balavatā kṣamo rāvaṇa tena te
vāryamāṇaḥ = was checked; subahuśaḥ = repeatedly; mārīcena = by Mārīca; saḥ rāvaṇaḥ = Rāvaṇa; na = not; virodhaḥ = clash; balavatā = with a stronger person; kṣamaḥ = is appropriate; rāvaṇa = O Rāvaṇa; tena = Rāma; te = your.
Rāvaṇa was repeatedly checked by Mārīca: O Rāvaṇa, your clash with Rāma, a stronger person, is not appropriate.
[50] kṣamas triṣu hite yogye yukte śakte paṭāv api (Śabda-ratnākara).
Mārīca told Rāvaṇa, “I have seen Rāma’s heroic deed of [vanquishing] Khara and others. He is stronger than you.”
Kṣamaḥ in this context means “appropriate” [50].
