Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 1: Contents of the Rāmāyaṇa Summarized
Text 1.1.77

ततः सुग्रीवसहितो गत्वा तीरं महोदधेः।
समुद्रं क्षोभयामास शरैरादित्यसन्निभैः॥

tataḥ sugrīva-sahito gatvā tīraṁ mahodadheḥ
samudraṁ kṣobhayām āsa śarair āditya-sannibhaiḥ

tataḥ = then [Rāma]; sugrīva-sahitaḥ = with Sugrīva; gatvā = went and; tīram = to the shores; maha udadheḥ = of the great ocean; samudram = the ocean; kṣobhayām āsa = agitated; śaraiḥ = with arrows; āditya-sannibhaiḥ = that shone like the sun.

Then, [Rāma] went to the shores of the great ocean with Sugrīva and agitated the ocean with arrows that shone like the sun.

Nārada Muni now begins to summarize Canto 6 or Yuddha-kāṇḍa.

After hearing Hanumān’s words, He reached the shores of the great ocean that was 100 yojanas wide. He agitated the ocean with arrows because He wanted the ocean to give way, but the ocean was indifferent to His desire. So, with His arrows He agitated the ocean fully, all the way up to the Pātāla regions [below the ocean].
