Chapter 1: Contents of the Rāmāyaṇa Summarized
Text 1.1.81
ततो अग्निवचनात्सीतां ज्ञात्वा विगतकल्मषाम्।
बभौ रामः सम्प्रहृष्टः पूजितः सर्वदैवतैः॥
tato ’gni-vacanāt sītāṁ jñātvā vigata-kalmaṣām
babhau rāmaḥ samprahṛṣṭaḥ pūjitaḥ sarva-daivataiḥ
tataḥ = then; agni-vacanāt = from Agni’s testimony; sītām = Sītā; jñātvā = by getting to know; vigata-kalmaṣām = was devoid of any contamination; babhau = shown; rāmaḥ = Rāma; samprahṛṣṭaḥ = with complete delight; pūjitaḥ = and was honored; sarva-daivataiḥ = by all the demigods.
Then, by getting to know that Sītā was devoid of any contamination from Agni’s testimony, Rāma shone with complete delight and was honored by all the demigods.
Agni testified that Sītā was devoid of even a trace of defect in her character in body, mind and words. All the demigods glorified Rāma’s adherence to Vedic dharma.
