Chapter 13: Daśaratha Goes to the Sacrificial Arena
Text 1.13.34
अवज्ञया न दातव्यं कस्यचिल्लीलयापि वा।
अवज्ञया कृतं हन्याद्दातारं नात्र संशयः॥
avajñayā na dātavyaṁ kasyacil līlayāpi vā
avajñayā kṛtaṁ hanyād dātāraṁ nātra saṁśayaḥ
avajñayā = disrespectfully; na = not; dātavyam = do give in charity; kasyacit = anything; līlayā = playfully; api = even; vā = or; avajñayā = disrespectfully; kṛtam = charity executed; hanyāt = will destroy; dātāram = the donor; na = [there is] no; atra = about this; saṁśayaḥ = doubt.
Do not give anything in charity disrespectfully or even playfully. Charity executed disrespectfully will destroy the donor. [There is] no doubt about this.
