Chapter 16: Daśaratha Benedicted
Text 1.16.33

ततस्तु ताः प्राश्य तदुत्तमस्त्रियो महीपतेरुत्तमपायसं पृथक्।
हुताशनादित्यसमानतेजसो चिरेण गर्भान्प्रतिपेदिरे तदा॥

tatas tu tāḥ prāśya tad uttama-striyo
mahī-pater uttama-pāyasaṁ pṛthak
hutāśanāditya-samāna-tejaso

cireṇa garbhān pratipedire tadā

tataḥ tu = then; tāḥ = those; prāśya = ate; tat = that; uttama-striyaḥ = excellent wives; mahī-pateḥ = of the king; uttama-pāyasam = excellent pāyasa; pṛthak = separately; huta-aśana-āditya-samāna-tejasaḥ = with a prowess that equalled the sacrificial fire and the sun; cireṇa = and quickly; garbhān pratipedire tadā = became pregnant.

Then, those excellent wives of the king separately ate that excellent pāyasa and quickly became pregnant with a prowess that equalled the sacrificial fire and the sun.

This description is incidental to help [the reader] easily follow the narration. These events actually took place after the king entered the city.
