Chapter 17: Brahmā Orders the Demigods to Incarnate and Assist Rāma

ते सृष्टा बहुसाहस्रा दशग्रीववधे रताः।
अप्रमेयबला वीरा विक्रान्ता कामरूपिणः॥
te sṛṣṭā bahu-sāhasrā daśa-grīva-vadhe ratāḥ
aprameya-balā vīrā vikrāntā kāma-rūpiṇaḥ
te = they; sṛṣṭāḥ = were generated; bahu-sāhasrāḥ = many thousands of; daśa-grīva-vadhe = on killing the ten-headed Rāvaṇa; ratāḥ = and intent; aprameya-balāḥ = were of immeasurable strength; vīrāḥ = heroic; vikrāntāḥ = and adventurous monkeys; kāma-rūpiṇaḥ = capable of assuming any form at will.
Many thousands of heroic and adventurous monkeys were generated. They were of immeasurable strength, capable of assuming any form at will and intent on killing the ten-headed Rāvaṇa.
Having described the generation of the chief monkeys, the sage Vālmīki briefly describes the generation of the other monkeys.
