Chapter 17: Brahmā Orders the Demigods to Incarnate and Assist Rāma

कामरूपबलोपेता यथाकामं विचारिणः।
सिंहशार्दूलसदृशा दर्पेण च बलेन च॥
kāma-rūpa-balopetā yathā-kāmaṁ vicāriṇaḥ
siṁha-śārdūla-sadṛśā darpeṇa ca balena ca
kāma-rūpa-bala upetāḥ = all of them were endowed with strength and the ability to change their form at will; yathā-kāmam = at will; vicāriṇaḥ = they wandered; siṁha-śārdūla-sadṛśāḥ = they were like lions and tigers; darpeṇa ca = in pride; balena ca = and strength.
All of them were endowed with the ability to change their form at will. They wandered at will. They were like lions and tigers in pride and strength.
Śrī Vālmīki then describes their capabilities in five verses.
