Chapter 17: Brahmā Orders the Demigods to Incarnate and Assist Rāma

ते तथोक्ता भगवता तत्प्रतिश्रुत्य शासनम्।
जनयामासुरेवं ते पुत्रान्वानररूपिणः॥
te tathoktā bhagavatā tat pratiśrutya śāsanam
janayām āsur evaṁ te putrān vānara-rūpiṇaḥ
te = the demigods; tathā = thus addressed; uktāḥ = were; bhagavatā = by Lord Brahmā; tat = that; pratiśrutya = having accepted; śāsanam = order of his; janayām āsuḥ = generated; evam = as follows; te = the demigods; putrān = sons; vānara-rūpiṇaḥ = in the form of monkeys.
The demigods were thus addressed by Lord Brahmā. Having accepted that order of his, the demigods generated sons in the form of monkeys as follows.
